Position Posting - Vice Provost for Academic Affairs

The University of Missouri-Rolla is seeking applications for the position of Vice-Provost for Academic Affairs. This is an internal hire, open only to qualified individuals presently employed at the University of Missouri-Rolla. Because this is a twelve-month appointment, Curators’ Professors will be required to relinquish their title and financial remuneration while serving in the Vice-Provost for Academic Affairs position. Due to the twelve-month duties and responsibilities of this position, those holding named chair faculty positions will be required to relinquish their title and financial benefits associated with their position. The “Duties and Responsibilities” and “Qualifications” are listed below. To be considered for this position submit a letter of interest and a current faculty vita to Human Resource Services, 113 University Center, UMR, no later than 5:00 p.m., February 21, 2007.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide service support for academic departments and supervise the Academic Service Center.

2. Oversee and work with the academic department chairs as delegated by the Provost.

3. Oversee accreditation activities and program reviews.

4. Coordinate proposed new degree programs.

5. Represent the campus at national Dean’s meetings, as appropriate.

6. Coordinate third year reviews and promotion and tenure process.

7. Coordinate new faculty and new administrator mentoring process.

8. Manage UMR-UM System coordination regarding academic affairs.

9. Coordinate UMR’s strategic planning activities.

10. Provide support functions for faculty hiring.

11. Coordinate with Academic Council.

12. Coordinate with individual advisory/development boards or academies.

13. Coordinate/manage budget planning activities, including summer school.

14. Coordinate closely with the other vice-provosts and the various administrative unit directors.

15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Provost.


QUALIFICATIONS

1. Demonstrate the ability to successfully direct and manage the Vice-Provost’s office and administrative functions.

2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

3. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact in a collegial manner with faculty, staff, and other campus constituents.

4. Demonstrated leadership abilities, especially the ability to work with the academic department chairs.

5. Demonstrated ability in building teams, strategic planning, and setting and achieving goals.

6. Must be tenured and hold the rank of full professor, or be qualified for appointment to the rank of full professor at the time of assuming the position.

7. Should exhibit knowledge of and experience with academic department operations.

8. Demonstrate adequate firsthand experience with academic curricula as well as management of personnel and budgets.

9. Ability and willingness to collaborate with other campuses and the UM System regarding academic affairs.
